Three points are worth noting. First, College enrollment had dropped from 600 to 300 in just two short years due to the imposition by the Board of a new curriculum. Second, in spite of the announcement of closing, fully half of the students admitted for the following (and last) year, enrolled at Antioch College in spite of the closing.

Third, nearly half of the former faculty Antioch College chose to address the challenges outlined in "The Coming College Bubble?" by creating the NonStop Institute for the Liberal Arts in Yellow Springs. With support from Antioch College Alums, and the Community of Yellow Springs, the NonStop Institute has put an academic program, administrative systems, and facilities in place in just six months, and is in the second semester of the project. Classes are taught in coffee houses, bookstores, churches and people's homes, and NonStop has operated as a think tank dealing with the challenges of offering a liberal arts program with scarce resources, limited facilities, low tuition, grounding in the community outside the academy, a pedagogical focus on shared governance, experiential learning, and leadership delegated to an elected faculty Executive collective. Our sense is that NonStop is navigating the challenges that most institutions of higher education will confront in the next few years, and making significant progress in the re-invention of the academy.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10755184565720957179noreply@blogger.com
